Owatonna transforms into a winter destination with a variety of outdoor activities, including ice skating on the natural Straight River rink, cross-country skiing through Kaplan’s Woods, and fat-tire biking on groomed snow trails. The city’s signature Winter event is the Bold & Cold Winter Festival in January, which features a community-wide medallion hunt, snow sculpture contests, and unique "pool bingo" at the local middle school. For indoor entertainment residents and visitors enjoy seasonal theatrical performances at the Little Theatre of Owatonna, and exhibits at the Steele County HIstory Center, and Owatonna Arts Center.
