I have always loved to travel. It began with Eurail passes and youth hostel stays with my husband in the 70s and when our sons arrived in the 80s, we became avid campers in the US and Canada. I traveled with small group tours during my husband’s long illness and then solo following his death. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve discovered the ease of cruising to far flung places.
I began taking pictures as a way to document and remember travels when my husband was no longer able to do so. Eventually, I began to notice fascinating angles, repetitions, contrasts, balance, proportion, texture and rhythm in architecture and cityscapes. My pictures became a mix of ordinary tourist shots for remembering and more artistic shots for their beauty alone.
I’ve used many kinds of cameras over the years, but lately have taken pictures exclusively with cell phones due to their picture quality and ease of use. I can now zoom out without pixelation and take action shots without blurring. Photography has become a rewarding pastime and artistic endeavor.
