As the Farmer’s Market season kicked off, Downtown Owatonna also celebrated its first Cinco de Mayo event on May 4th, offering a day of lively music, delicious food, and traditional piñatas that delighted attendees of all ages. The initial rainy weather gave way to sunshine, drawing a larger crowd and creating a festive atmosphere. Lupe Martinez, owner of El Rey del Taco Food Truck, who spearheaded the celebration, expressed satisfaction with the day’s events despite the early weather challenges. The successful event was a collaborative effort involving El Rey del Taco, the Alliance for Greater Equity, and Owatonna Main Street. Building on this year’s experience, the organizers are already planning next year’s celebration, aiming to enhance the festivities with the lessons learned.
