The 20th Annual Downtown Clean Up was held on Thursday, May 19th. Students and teachers from the ALC, City Staff & RE/MAX Venture office all worked together to make Downtown Owatonna look great! Walking down from the school, the students spread out in 5 groups and concentrated on picking up any litter, garbage, and dirt that they saw. Armed with brooms, shovels, rakes, gloves and garbage bags, they set their sights on Cedar Avenue all the way north to Farmer’s Feed & Pet Supply, west to Oak Avenue, east to Elm Avenue and around Central Park on Broadway, Bridge and Main. After working hard, everyone came back to the park and heard words of appreciation from Mayor Tom Kuntz. A full meal was served by the RE/MAX staff and all food was donated by:
Owatonna Elks Lodge 1395, Owatonna Eagles 1791, American Legion Post 77, Carla’s Candies & Sweets, LLC, Steele County Pork Producers and RE/MAX Venture.
Owatonna’s own celebrity, Vern Wilker, volunteered his time to grill hotdogs and pork burgers and no one left hungry. Then the RE/MAX staff really hit it out of the park when they handed out over $700 worth of prizes donated by local businesses. The students entered the drawing at the beginning of the day; however, every student walked away with a prize because of the awesome generosity of Owatonna businesses. What a great community event – we are already planning for next year!
